What it actually looks like
How it connects to Canvas
You connect Studeo with an access token you create yourself, inside your own Canvas account settings. Studeo holds no special access — it reads exactly what you can read, and nothing else: your courses, your assignments and deadlines, your own grades, and the material your professors have published.
That's how it works today. The method Canvas intends for apps like this one is an institutional connection your school approves once, and Studeo is built for it and working toward getting one.
Studeo checks Canvas for updates a few times a day, including when you aren't using it, so your grades and deadlines are current when you open it. You can disconnect at any time in Settings, and you can delete the token in Canvas yourself — which cuts off access no matter what Studeo does.
Studeo never sees another student's work, and it is not connected to your school in any way.

Start with one class, or all of them.
One thing worth checking first, it takes about 30 seconds. Studeo connects using an access token you create in your own Canvas settings. Most schools let students do this; a few turn it off. In Canvas, go to Account → Settings → Approved Integrations and look for + New Access Token. If it's there, you're set.
